So fall has finally hit sunny SoCal, which basically means that it’s sunny and beautiful with a light, cool wind…real tough to deal with. Though, during the winter months, even we Southern Californians tend to return to the paler versions of our golden tan Summer selves. Hard to believe I know, but it’s true; which is why I’m writing this to help us all out! I leave for Thailand in a few days and I need to bring back my summer glow ASAP so I thought I would share with you all on how I do it.
Seeing as I have a job, and it’s chilly out, I can’t possibly go to the beach and bake in the sun with a mojito. That leaves me with self tanners. When prepped and applied properly, you won’t turn out like a Jersey Shore cast member, I promise. First things first, to achieve the most even application, you have to exfoliate. I’m not talking about your ratty luffa…for the best exfoliation, super smooth skin and streak-free application check out Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt, it’s my go-to before I bathe in bronze!

Knees, hands, elbows and feet tend to be dry areas of your body. The drier the area the more likely a self tanner will turn out dry and blotchy. That said, rub a little light lotion on those areas before applying the tanner and you’ll be fine. You can go a couple of ways with self tanners…mousses like Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse is a favorite of mine because they dry quickly and are not sticky! I prefer Ultra Dark because I like to think I live on a yacht most of the time buuuuuut if you’re fair or nervous it comes in Medium and Dark as well. If you are a beginner I recommend a lotion though, lotions are easy to spread and you’ll have more time to rub it in, meaning less streaks. St. Tropez is one of the best! The color has a green/brown base so you won’t be a hint of orange! There’s a new product on the market that is super cool!! It’s a tanner you can use while in the shower… I know so awesome. St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower, rub it on, let it sit for 3 minutes and rinse off. BOOM - beach ready! I have yet to try this product, but I plan to take it home tonight, so I’ll review when I get back from VACAY!
That’s pretty much it for self tanners, a few tips to make it last would be to moisturize daily, don’t luffa in the shower and wait at least 12 hours to shower after application. I also like to use a mitt so my palms don’t look like burnt leather, but the choice is yours…Happy tanning!
