We sure do love our makeup brushes, but sometimes you just don't have the time or the budget to use them. Whatever your reason for forgoing brushes, you'll love our quick guide to other handy makeup applicators.
Wedge Sponge
Did your mom have a drawer full of these, too? Maybe she was on to something. Wedge sponges are great for applying foundation and concealer, but they have a variety of other uses too.
They're perfect for applying eyeshadow and for perfecting your cat-eye. You can also use them wet or dry with liquid or powder formulas. They're inexpensive, disposable, and easy to find at your favorite beauty supply store, making them an easy thing to keep on hand.
To apply foundation with one a wedge sponge, first wet the sponge and wring it out. Apply your foundation to the sponge and press it onto your skin with a stippling motion. Your skin will look smooth and flawless in no time!
Tissue
If you're out of blotting paper or setting powder, look no further than your closest tissue box.
To use for either, pull the tissue apart and press the inside of it to your face. It will soak up excess oil and leave you smooth.
You can also hold tissue underneath your eyes while applying your shadow and mascara to catch any excess product that dusts off in the process.
Q-tips
These are one of our favorite beauty products - they're so versatile!
They're perfect for cleaning up makeup mistakes like smudged liner, out-of-bounds lipstick and all-over-your-fingers nail polish. More than just an eraser, they can also be used to apply lipstick or eyeliner.
Simply wet them down a bit and swirl onto your lipstick, then dab on your lips. For liner, wet the Q-tip, dab into a dark eyeshadow, and apply as close to the lash line as possible.
Cotton Pads
If your blush brush is out of commission, a circular cotton pad will do the trick. Lightly dab it into your blush and apply to the apples of your cheeks. It'll leave a streak-free, fabulous finish every time.
You can use them with any kind of powdered makeup - foundation, finishing powder, etc. Just follow the same steps for a smooth, even finish.
Toothbrush
Who needs a brow brush when you have a toothbrush? As long as it's clean (and never touched your teeth), it can be used to smooth brows and, additionally, exfoliate your lips.
You don't have to give up your beloved brushes, but now you have the freedom to go without if you need to. So lighten up that makeup bag and still enjoy a put-together look with ease!
