There's a chill in the air, pumpkin spice everything is hitting the shelves and parties are being planned. You know what that means: Halloween is right around the corner! Beat the rush for supplies and buy these makeup items now:
We know, this isn't technically makeup. But it's an essential first step in creating a long-lasting look for Halloween. Makeup adheres better to clean skin, and the astringent will help remove those excess oils.
This is probably the most popular Halloween makeup item. It's easy to find and apply and often comes in kits designed for certain looks, like a witch, vampire, etc. While this makes your job super easy, beware of these kits. We know it doesn't seem like a big deal - it's only one night, right? But what you put on your skin always matters! And unfortunately, these kits often contain nasty ingredients that can cause an even nastier reaction. Stick with brands you know and love (and don't have those pesky irritants!). One of our favorites, especially for theatrical makeup, is Mehron cosmetics. They're a top seller for a reason! You can feel good about putting them on your skin and they get the job done right.
Adhesives can be tricky at first, but can also create some awesome Halloween makeup. They can be used to create a variety of special effects from wrinkles to gory head wounds. The most popular adhesives are Spirit Gum, liquid latex and corn syrup. Be careful with liquid latex - it's ammonia based and its vapors can burn your eyes. You can still use it, just let it vent a little before applying.
Prosthetics can add so much to your costume. You can add a wart, scar, or even (with some practice) a new nose! Most of these are rubber or latex, but you can also create your own with layers of adhesive-soaked tissue. As with any makeup, it's a good idea to do a skin test first. Beyond that, we hope you have a blast this year with your Halloween makeup!
