Our Favorite Makeup Products Inspired by the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year

Our Favorite Makeup Products Inspired by the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year

Even if you’re not a graphic designer, you’ve likely heard of Pantone. If you haven’t, here’s the scoop: it was created to be a “universal language” for colors, ensuring that people all over are talking about the same thing when they say “warm gold.” Pantone has just released their “Colors of the Year” for 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity, and we think their subtle pink and lavender glow – coupled with Pantone’s precision – provides the perfect inspiration to change up your look this year.

The Right Tools for the Job

Pantone selected their colors of the year with relaxation in mind, and we’re inspired by makeup tools that do the same! We like Sigma's brushes for this job because of their impeccable balance between price and pampering. It’s a perfect pairing – just like Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Where to start? We recommend checking out Sigma’s Duo Fibre Powder/Blush Brush for its gentle touch. No matter how vivid your blush, the soft application of this brush will help you capture the airy, dreamlike quality that makes Rose Quartz so special.

The Products

Jouer Glisten Brightening Powder

This brightening powder would be a no-brainer even if it didn't capture the luminous quality of Pantone’s Rose Quartz. Jouer has infused their brightening powder with tons of skin-nourishing ingredients like Vitamin E and pomegranate extract. Chamomile and cucumber nurture your skin, leaving you as relaxed as Pantone’s Colors of the Year.

Stilazzi Private Affair Correct & Conceal Palette

If you’ve never tried a color correcting concealer, make it your New Year’s Resolution! Try Stilazzi’s lavender concealer to even out any skin discolorations, or to tone down your freckles without banishing them. The pink concealer is a great choice to brighten you up, giving your skin the same refreshed glow that makes Rose Quartz so gorgeous.

NYX Prismatic Shadows in “Smoke and Mirrors”

As blues go, Serenity has an ethereal, smoky quality that we think makes it the perfect choice to spice up your favorite smoky eye combo this year! It’s a complex shade that includes some purple and grey undertones, making it a suitable choice no matter what your eye color.

We love shades like “Smoke and Mirrors” of NYX Prismatic Shadows for the same reason: they’re more than just another baby blue. “Smoke and Mirrors” has a gorgeous metallic sheen that lends it extra complexity and is guaranteed to make your eyes pop.

Jouer Long Wear Crème Mousse Eyeshadow in “Starlight”

For long-lasting wear, light texture, and a sophisticated shimmer, you can’t beat Jouer’s Long Wear Crème Mousse Eyeshadow. We like the “Starlight” shade for a soft pink that captures all the whimsy of Rose Quartz without going over the top. Try gently patting it all over your lid for an everyday look, or use it as a highlighter to add some glitz to your evening. In true Jouer style, this eyeshadow is also full of lots of yummy, skin-soothing ingredients.

NYX Love in Paris Be Our Guest Maurice Eyeshadow Palette

Maybe you love the way Rose Quartz and Serenity blend together, or maybe you’re a girl on the go who’d rather just have one easy palette to toss into her bag. Either way, you’re not alone! That’s why we had to include this très belle selection from NYX. Choose from tons of gorgeous lavender shades that encompass the best of what this year’s Pantone picks have to offer.

Lorac Baked Matte Satin Blush in “Velvet Rope”

It’s easy to be inspired by the gorgeous pink-lavender tones of this blush, which beautifully mimic the interplay between Rose Quartz and Serenity. The good news is, it’s even easier to adapt this versatile blush to any look. Use it dry with for a softer finish, or gently wet your brush before applying to let the colors sing (and get a little extra durability). This charming blush is made with mica, to help deliver an airbrush-like finish, and dimethicone, to protect your skin.

Sara Happ One Luxe Gloss The Pink Slip and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Tokyo” or “Abu Dhabi”

This year’s Pantone colors are sophisticated and soft, but we would be remiss if we didn’t find the fun in them! Try this Sara Happ gloss to mimic the playful cotton candy shades of Rose Quartz while offering your lips some moisturizing TLC. The perfect balance between “sexy” and “sweet” make this lip gloss a winner in our book.

If lipstick and richer pigment is more your style but you’re sick of dry lips, we recommend NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Tokyo.” This bright, bubble gum pink is formulated to go on smooth, but dries to a matte finish. If you’re into the nude lip trend, try the “Abu Dhabi” shade for a more neutral interpretation.

NCLA Not So Sweet Polish

Serenity and Rose Quartz are sweet, but that doesn’t mean you have to be! Try this NCLA polish on those days where you're feeling some sass. While this gentle pink mimics the warmth of Rose Quartz, don’t be fooled: this is one manicure that will leave you ready to take the world by storm. Better still, NCLA products avoid toxins and animal testing, making this polish the perfect fit for a Pantone duo that is focused on your well-being (and your furry friends')!

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre

One last pampering pick we just had to include! Whether the day’s beginning or the night's almost over, we love this product for its versatility, and even more for its luxurious feel! This lotion formula is packed with oodles of ingredients your skin will love, and can be used as a primer, moisturizer, and makeup remover. It’s the perfect “does it all” product to toss into your bag when you’re on the go.

We want to hear from you! Dainty pinks and soft blues aren’t just for baby showers anymore – what are your favorite ways to reclaim these colors for the grown-ups? Don’t forget, if any of our picks inspires you, you can save 10% when you create a Frends account.
