One of my favorite things about the holiday season is all the festive parties and how you get to dress up for those parties! Which means glamorous makeup is completely acceptable all season long. Sparkly eyes, red lips and shimmering cheeks are a must do for this time of year! Speaking of shimmering cheeks let’s talk highlights, cause you can never have enough, am I right?
Let’s start with the king of sculpting, the OG of highlights…Kevyn Aucoin. He always said if your base is done right, all you need is mascara and gloss. Kevyn was constantly ahead of his time it showed in his work and products. The Celestial Powder “Candlelight” started the highlight trend. It’s a buttery soft champagne shimmer that works on virtually every skin tone. It’s a must try!!
Probably the current most popular highlight powder would be The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer. It’s a honey-hued shimmer powder that works for a highlight and eye shadow! The shine factor is a bit more intense than the Kevyn Aucoin “Candlelight” and perfect for getting glammed up! The Balm also makes it in Cindy-Lou, which is a gorgeous peachy-pink tone, and Betty-Lou that is a golden shade for darker skin or if you just want to be sun kissed all year round like myself.
If you’re anything like me, you put highlight on right after your foundation and before powder. I find that it gives me a natural looking glow and if I want to intensify it later, I can with a powder. That said, there are two that I can’t live without and have been getting a lot of buzz lately. Jouer Highlighter (crème) and their Luminizing Liquid Highlighter Pen. Both are seriously stunning, the crème is soft and blendable while the pen is a bit more dewy. The crème highlighter comes in three colors, Camellia, an opalescent shimmer (LOVE to pop this in the corner of my eyes!) Tiare, a light golden tone and Champagne, a peachy-gold tone that is my personal FAVE!
Happy highlighting and happy holidaaaaze!!
