Every so often, something...a product, a line...comes along that garners universal appeal amongst a group of professionals. Then it just goes away. Like a really bad television show. It just goes away and you forget all about it. Not Ben Nye cosmetics. Ben Nye has staying power in an industry full of ever changing trends and professional needs.
The Ben Nye Makeup Company was founded in 1967 by Benjamin Emmet "Ben" Nye, Sr., a renowned American makeup artist for the Hollywood film industry for over four decades, from the 1930s to the early 1980s. He worked on over five hundred 20th Century Fox films both in and out of Hollywood. Including Gone with the Wind (1939), Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The King and I (1956), The Fly (1958), Valley of the Dolls (1967), and Planet of the Apes (1968). His brother was actor Carroll Nye, best remembered today as Frank Kennedy, Scarlett O'Hara's second husband in Gone with the Wind (1939). (source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Nye)
His extensive experience working on set gave Nye Sr. the knowledge needed to create a makeup line with products ideal for stage and on camera. For decades, Ben Nye makeup has been used all over the world by professional makeup artists working in the entertainment industry. It wasn't until Kim Kardashian's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic used BenNye Banana Powder did the line become a household name globally. Today you would be hard pressed to find a makeup artist who doesn't have Ben Nye products in their kit, no matter what their specialty.
